QUESTION:
What is your favorite dessert and favorite casserole/side dish that you look forward to eating on Thanksgiving every year? And who in your family prepares those special dishes that you love so much?
I always loved sausage stuffing. My nana used to make it years and years ago but she's 98 and hasn't cooked in a long time. We don't live that close to our family so we've been spending Thanksgiving with neighbors the last few years. I love the apple pie my neighbors mom makes.
ReplyDeleteOh hands down its "Aunt Kay's Potatoes" which translates to Hasbrown cassarole. Its chalked full of yummy cheese, sour cream, cream of chicken soup and butter. My Aunt Kay used to make it all the time but now we just find someone in the family to make sure its there.
ReplyDeleteI am linking your giveaway on my blog!
I love love LOVE those dishes!
I am currently living overseas, so am never home for Thanksgiving, which is still difficult to get used to after all these years. But, I am home for Christmas, and "make up for lost time" then. Last year I was making ginger lime tarts at midnight on Christmas Eve!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite side dish is definitely my BIL's mother's cheesy potatoes. Absolutely hilarious, since this is the ONLY thing she makes that anyone likes, including her son. So we ask her to make it for every single meal she comes to!
After holiday meals I am usually too stuffed to eat anything for dessert, but you could twist my arm with anything gingerbread!
These dishes would be so much fun to bake in, even at midnight...hint, hint.
Hope to hear from you at tokyoshoes (at) hotmail (dot) com. If I win, you can send the dishes in care of my mother.
My husbands peppermint cheesecake....mmmm.
ReplyDeleteThe recipe is posted on my sidebar.
daldak01@yahoo.ca
To be honest, I love everything my grandma cooks. She is amazing and has everything and anything one could ever want. I really don't think I could pick just one thing.
ReplyDeleteAs far as dessert, my aunt makes a cranberry apple cake that is to die for!
girl! Banana pudding and Green Been Casserole! YUMMY! Too bad I am not pregnant anymore and don't have the excuse of eating a lot. My grandmother makes the Banana Pudding and my sweet Mama makes the Green Been Casserole!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait ;)
Favorite Dessert...tie between Pumpkin and Chocolate Pecan Pie. My favorite side is stuffing....no one beats my Mom's!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Shan on the green bean casserole. I don't care who makes it though as long as it's there.
ReplyDeleteMy Godmother always made cranberry relish with big bits of oranges in it. That is definately one of my favorites.
It is so hard to say because my family is untraditional in its' Thanksgiving fare. One year it was Mexican food and this year it is BBQ, so we don't usually have certain things every year. EXCEPT for my mom's Lemon Fruit Cake which is now made by moi since she is gone. It would not be Thanksgiving without it. So, that takes care of dessert. Now, for the casserole it would have to be my sister Nora's Corn Casserole which is actually a yummy cheese dip with corn and sausage and Rotel. That is a keeper for sure. Pack those dishes carefully and bring them on to your home town to me!
ReplyDeleteBroccoli, cheese, and rice casserole is my favorite Thanksgiving side dish. And pecan pie is my FAVORITE dessert. Of. All. Time. Period.
ReplyDeleteAnd typically, I make the broccoli casserole and my mom makes the pecan pie. But last year I asked her not to make the pecan pie, because I cannot control myself while eating it. I will eat the whole entire pie if people around me don't monitor my activity closely.;)
Thanks for the give a way! I love colorful dishes.:)
I just put a link to your contest on my site. I love the dishes. Thank you. Oh wait, there I go getting ahead of myself.
ReplyDeleteWe do not have a traditional Thanksgiving...we hop around to different friends and family for the holiday. My favorites are: any kind of cheesy potato, and pumpkin pie.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, without a doubt, my mother's crustless pumpkin pie. All the goodness of pumpkin pie without the crust!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy Momma's cornbread dressing!! YUM! Her mom made it before that, and now I get to! :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite sides are Broccoli casserole that my mom makes and veggie casserole that my mother-in-law makes. My favorite dessert is chocolate chip pound cake... it is delicious. My mom makes this cake and I always make one and take it to my in-laws because they love it so much.
ReplyDeleteMy pumpkin pie (not bragging, I'm just the only one who makes one on Thanksgiving!), Mom's broccoli and rice casserole. This year I'm hosting Thanksgiving at my house, so I could certainly use some pretty dishes to cook in! ;)
ReplyDeleteFirst, I love those pie plates!
ReplyDeleteOkay, my nana's dressing! It's divine! It's so moist and if that's all we ever had for Thanksgiving, I would be happy.
I linked you so I'm leaving comment # 2 :) Wooo hoo!
ReplyDeleteSo, my aunt Mildred makes this pink stuff. I don't know what it is, but I used to love it when I was little girl. BUT I haven't liked in years! She still makes it every year for me, because she still thinks it's my favorite. Bless her heart!
My favorite dessert? My mother-in-law's sweet potato pie. It is full of unhealthy things and absolutely delicious!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite side dish? Probably my mom's twice baked potatoes. Or maybe Ryan's grandma's cranberry salad. Or maybe my mom's fresh baked rolls...that's a tough one!
My dad's stuffing is delicious and my grandma's chocolate eclair is divine!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dish is Butternut Squash Stuffed with Apples and Sausage. I am the one who makes it. DH has a favorite dish his mother makes from leftover ham called Company Ham Casserole. It has ham, pasta and lots of cheese in it.
ReplyDeleteI've put a link to your giveaway on my home blog.
My favorite dessert is the pumpkin pie...which I generally make for everyone. But I love my mother-in-laws rolls. I can't seem to get enough. Yummy!
ReplyDeleteMy mom makes this hashbrown casserole that is really good!
ReplyDeleteOh, there are so many! I love the holidays!! I guess my favorite dessert would be bourbon pecan pie. I use to love the stuffing my grandmother made but she's been gone for five years now and nobody makes it like she did. My sister makes an awesome broccoli & cheese casserole that almost makes up for not having grandmas stuffing.
ReplyDeleteI love pumpkin pie for dessert (it's a classic and not very original, but I LOVE it!) and broccoli casserole is probably my favorite side. No matter what, these two dishes seem to taste especially good on Thanksgiving. My mom makes the pumpkin pie and either me or my sister make the casserole. I love Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteI love my grandmother's cranberry relish. I dream about it all year! I can't wait to make some for Thanksgiving, and you can believe I will be eating it on everything in sight! My favorite dessert for Thanksgiving is my daughter's pumpkin pie. She started making it about 5 years ago when she was 12 or so. She does it so well, and everyone loves it!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dessert is cherry pie that my aunt makes it's the best. But when it comes to side/casserole dishes I could never pick just one, you see my family is italian so we have the normal thanksgiving foods alongwith lasagna, antipasta, ceaser salad, but I guess my real fav is green bean casserole.
ReplyDeleteO and I am linking to your blog on mine!
Sweet potato soup and pecan pie (both made by my Mama) are my two favorites.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite side is corn bread stuffing and my g randma makes it but she lives far, far away so I had to learn to make it! My favorite pie is (sticking to my southern roots) sweet potato pecan pie. It would look so cute in the yellow pie dish!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite has to be French Crumb Apple Pie, my grandma started the tradition, then my aunt took over the pies when I was little, and now I do them for my family/in-laws. It's always a big hit with it's crumb topping that almost caramelizes from the baked in brown sugar and perfectly flaky crust.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the awesome givaway!
Aunt Mary's Broccoli Casserole!! It's just not a holiday without it!! And for dessert, Aunt Peggy's Blonde Brownies. I've learned to make both now since I live far away, and I do an okay job- but the orginal is always the best!!
ReplyDeleteCute baking dishes! Love the colors! This is going to sound crazy but I don't really have any favorite thanksgiving dishes. I am too picky to enjoy Thanksgiving the way other people enjoy it! I'm sure you are real surprised by that! I hope you get to feeling better!
ReplyDeleteMy mom always makes Derby Pie that is fabulous! Also her hashbrown casserole is amazing!!
ReplyDeleteLove the pie plate and casserole dish! So fun!
ReplyDeleteOk, I love a pumpkin roll and brocolli cheese casserole. So good! My mom usually orders the pumpkin roll, though I have the recipe now and plan on trying it, and mom and I prepare the brocolli cheese casserole together.
I love my Mom's apple crisp! She makes it every year and it is yummy! As far as a casserole that I love...that would be CORNBAKE! My husband makes it since it is a tradition that we totally stole from his family! My New England family had never heard of it until we got married! LOL! These are great dishes! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeletejinglesells at gmail dot com
I linked you.
ReplyDeleteI also love making the pecan pie. It's so good. And pecan tassies are just the cutest things ever!
My aunt makes the best broccoli corn casserole. I've tried to re-create it at home, but it is never as good as the one she makes for Thanksgiving. My all time favorite dessert would have to be pecan pie, and it doesn't matter who makes it, but I make a copycat O'Charley's caramel pie that is pretty fantastic too!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to eating sweet pot casserole. My aunt makes this every year and it is a must at Thanksgiving. The potatos have brown sugar and pecans on top...yummmmm
ReplyDeleteNext to pumpkin pie, I love sweet potatoe casserole with marshmallows on top. My Grammy used to make them, but for the past five or six years, it's been the new tradition for me to make them. And she is totally proud that her granddaugther makes the sweet dish just as yummy as she did!!! (o:
ReplyDeleteHowever, I have some huge aspirations of my mother-in-laws cooking to learn yet!
Those are such cute dishes!
I'm entering twice now - I linked your contest on my post today! (o:
ReplyDeleteI would make a cherry pie in this wonderful dish..and of course my Mom makes everything taste better!
ReplyDeleteMy very favorite side dish is a macaroni casserole that my grandmother (we call her Nanny) makes. My Aunt Faye make my favortie dessert which is a melt-in-your-mouth chocolate layer cake!
ReplyDeleteI would have to say my MIL's broccoli casserole, my dad's cornbread dressing, and "my" sweet potato casserole. It is so easy and delicious! Of course, any kind of casserole tickles my fancy!! :)
ReplyDeleteMy cousin brings a fancy potato dish that I love! Other than that it would be the sweet pot. casserole with pecans on top that I have to bring to the family gathering.
ReplyDeletePumpkin pie or pumpkin cheesecake is my favorite holiday dessert.
For dessert, I am a tried and true pumpkin pie fan. And I love my MIL's homemade pie crust, yum!
ReplyDeleteAs far as side dishes go, my mom makes this amazing spinach casserole with cream cheese. Yum, yum!
My dad's wife makes the best pies! She taught me and my daughter her pie-making expertise last year and I think of her each time I whip out a pie. She also makes excellent broccoli cheese casserole. Yummy!
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful dishes!!!
My favorite dessert is coconut cream pie and my mother makes a great one. My favorite dish for Thanksgiving is cornbread dressing. No one can make it as good as my mother. Hers is so good that when we go to my son's after Thanksgiving I am having to take him some of his Nana's dressing.
ReplyDeleteOk...technically I have two favorites. Potato casserole (made with frozen hasbrowns, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, cheese, etc) and Hot Corn Casserole (made with shoepeg corn, red pepper, chopped green chilies and bread crumbs) Both are delicious and my mom passed the recipes on to me. I still think her's taste better though!
ReplyDeleteI would so make both of those dishes in that beautiful blue dish!
Thanks so much for the giveaway! I'll talk about it on my blog today.
oh, of course my favorite dessert this time of year is pumpkin pie. sigh. how i love thee, pumpkin.
ReplyDeleteand favorite side dish??? corn casserole. sounds.. weird, but it's basically just creamy corn.
and of COURSE baked mac & cheese. sigh. that is pure, pure heaven in food form.
i love your contests!!! and i love funky colored kitchen stuff. i have a lime green HUGE mixing bowl. it is my favorite thing and makes me happy wheneveri open the cabinet.
i know. i'm weird. :)
OH MY GOSH! So many different foods I love during the holidays...but nothing is complete without my seafood dressing. Now who makes it is me....I know but I sort of just started mixing things up and came up with this. There might be a recipe out there but I just throw this and that and it is so yummy.
ReplyDeleteLove the retro dishes. Now heading over to my place to link your giveaway up.
The ladies in my family all make wonderful holiday food. I absolutely love dressing! Why do we only have it at special occasions? My Mom's cheesey potato casserole has to be my favorite. Cheese and potatoes, how can you go wrong?
ReplyDeleteEvery year my daughter makes Mile High Fudge Brownie Pie! Wow! It would be great to give her a nice new pie plate to bring it in!
ReplyDeleteI also love stuffing! I always make twice the amount I need so theres plenty of leftover! Happy Holidays!

my mom makes this yummy rice dressing with white and wild rice, sausage, slivered almonds, celery, onion and lots of other yummmy. It's SO GOOD!!

What an awesome giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dessert is Pumpkin Pie and I make this every year...I love that I have something that people in my family request of me each year.
My favorite side dish is my Granny's Noodles! They are seriously the best noodles I have ever had in my life. Last year my Granny taught me how to make them and this year we are going to make them together. I am really looking forward to that!
No question, pecan pie is my favorite dessert! It's not Thanksgiving unless I make cornbread stuffing. Our family also loves homemade dilly bread.
ReplyDeleteCarol
Cute giveaway!
ReplyDeleteDessert - Coconut Cream Pie (My maternal grandmother)
Side - Potato Casserole (my aunt - mom's siter)
My favorite dessert is actually made in a casserole dish! French bread pudding made with REAL maple syrup. :) Yumm yumm.
ReplyDeleteAnd then... sweet potato casserole for a general casserole dish. Complete with sugared pecans and marshmallows!! Delish!!
What super cute dishes, they would be so perfect in my brand new vintage baker's cabinet in my dining room!
We have a family recipe for the most delicious mac-and-cheese casserole that my great grandmother used to make for us. It's an essential element to our Thanksgiving meal. And to add another non-traditional Thanksgiving dish to the mix, my mom gets me a key-lime pie from my favorite bakery at home. Other than those two things, everything else is traditional Thanksgiving meal :)
ReplyDeleteOh, and I linked to you on my blog: kabryan.blogspot.com!
My favorite dessert is pecan pie. It's so yummy! It's also the very first dish I made from scratch. At Thanksgiving we typically have three of them: one from my granma, one from my step-mom, and one from me. It's not a surprise that ALL THREE pies are eaten in one meal. ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite side dish is dressing. My grandma, aunts, and I prepare it Thanksgiving morning. I like it so much that I even get my own dish! :-) Ahhh wonderful stuff.
These are too cute! My fave dessert is Better than Sex Cake and my best friend made it for my birthday each year! My fave cassarole is green bean, mmmm!
ReplyDeleteEvery year I look forward to green bean casserole. YUMMY!!! I prepare it myself of course. My step-dad makes a pretty good GBC too. My mom can’t cook to save her life unless it comes from a box ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the holidays for making Apple Dumplings and broccoli casserole. Two simple recipes but two that I rarely make outside of the holiday season.
ReplyDeleteWell, I have never liked pumpkin pie very much, but a few years ago I whipped up my first pumpkin cheesecake and it is now my favorite Tgiving dessert. But I'd have to say that I REALLY love cranberry sauce and can't wait to gobble (no pun intended!) that up! My mother in law is in charge of that, and it is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteOyster and cornbread stuffing is my favorite, made from scratch of course! For dessert my mom always make a sour cream chocolate cake that is just delish!
ReplyDeleteStuffing is my favorite side at Thanksgiving and my dad makes the best ever!
ReplyDeleteOne year we had Thanksgiving at my inlaws and they didn't have Turkey AND no stuffing! I was heart broken!
My favorite dessert is Pumpkin pie! Yum!

ReplyDeletelauren kucharski stewart
My favorite dessert is pumpkin pie. It's the official dessert of Thanksgiving! Side dish...I love the cheesy mashed potatoes that my mom makes. She's such a good cook, though. I like everything she makes.
ReplyDeleteMy favorites are pretty simple: Apple crisp and green bean casserole. I prepare them, but since they are both so easy, the kids always like to help with those two.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dessert to bake in a cute pie plate is blueberry pie, and I have to make brocolli/cheese csserole for my kids all the time whether holiday meal or not! It would be great in this cute casserole dish! Hope I win.
ReplyDeleteOur family's favorite side dish is called moque choux. It's a cajun corn dish, made with LOTS of butter and veggies. It used to be my dad's speciality, but since he taught me how to do it, I've taken it over for family events. He's said I make it better than he does now, so he won't make it anymore!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dessert at Thanksgiving is my husband's pumpkin by, mostly because I know how much love he's poured into it! I love practically all Thanksgiving food. I like my mom's stuffing A LOT! There's never enough, either!!!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, these dishes are absolutely beautiful! :)
Cranberry jello salad. My mom has made it every thanksgiving of my life. We're doing thanksgiving with friends this year and I think I'm going to try my hand at it for the first time.
ReplyDeleteHi Whitney - I hope you are feeling well and had a great weekend! My fav side dish is the stuffing (made with lots of sage). My mom's is my favorite. Not sure if I can choose one dessert. My stepmom makes something called Oreo Delight that is to die for but I also love the pumpking pies. And pecan pie, and cherry pie..... All with lots of Cool Whip on top!
ReplyDeleteI have you linked to my blog so am adding my second entry here. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite casserole is my mom's cheesy potato casserole. Since she flies south for the winter now, I get to make it!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dessert of the holiday's has to be chocolate silk pie, it is so yummy. My aunt usually makes it and I look forward to it all year long. My favorite casserole is hashbrown casserole, my husbands grandma made the best.
ReplyDeleteI love every dish on Thanksgiving. I can't pick just one, but I do enjoy the sweet potato casserole.. mmmm.. Everyone in my family chips in to make Thanksgiving, they pair up with their husbands and make a dish. We have such a large family that gets together for Thanksgiving (and all stays at my Aunts MANSION..loveee it) so there is always enough people to make the food. I am so excited for Thanksgiving this year! Yay for another giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI was scrolling down thinking about how much I love Chocolate silk pie and found that Shell (who commented just before I did) also listed that as her fav.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite side dish is sweet potato casserole which would look so cute in that blue dish. :-)
I love my grandma's stuffing - I have no idea what's in it, but it's the best!! My all time favorite Thanksgiving desert is Pecan Pie!! My grandma makes the best Pecan Pie, too. :)
ReplyDeleteMy grandma makes the best pumpkin cheesecake pie, and I love sweet potatoes! =) I would love to win! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love my mother in law's apple pie. I'm not really an apple pie person like my husband but hers is delicious! I also like the traditional green bean casserole which I make.
ReplyDeleteElisa in Cincinnati
mssparkle88@yahoo.com
I love all things thanksgiving but my most favorite was my Mamaws stuffing. I love my moms pecan pie it is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI put a link on my blog.
ReplyDeleteI love Sweet potato pie and I love candied yams.I make the food for the holidays now but my Grandfather used to but he passed away several years ago.
ReplyDeleteMmmm, Thanksgiving just isnt complete without sweet potatoes with toasty marshmallows on top or pumpkin pie in any form! These dishes are so adorable!
ReplyDeleteDessert is pie (I make them the best;) and Side is the stuffing my MIL makes.
ReplyDeleteI love the dishes - just want to stop by and say HI though!
ReplyDeleteI don't really have a favorite caserole...OHHHH! Yes I do! Eggplant Zucchini casserole - and my ma in laws partner Jenny makes it... and I think my favorite holiday dessert...pumpkin pie made by...maybe me this year!
Hope you have a great day!!!
Broccoli/Rice Casserole is by far my favorite side dish. My mom always makes two things of it b/c everyone loves it so much, but I'm helping her out this year and making one thing of it. Also, Pumpkin Pie is my favorite dessert. My mom makes this, as well. My birthday always falls around Thanksgiving, so Mom usually puts candles in my pie:) This year, my birthday is on Thanksgiving and my favorite color is yellow, so it would be wonderful to have my favorite dessert in my favorite color dish on my birthday!
ReplyDeleteThis is totally boring, but my favorite dessert is Pumpkin Pie, and my favorite side dish is whipped sweet potatoes. Thanksgiving is the ONLY time of year that we have these two things so I really look forward to them. This year I had a crazy hairbrained idea to have a cajun shrimp boil for Thanksgiving instead of going traditional. What was I thinking? I am missing the pumpkin pie already.... :(
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Thanksgiving dessert is Cherry Pie! I'm not such a pumpkin pie kinda girl, but I love me some cherry! My mom also makes a delicious Green Bean casserole that is so creamy, and has crunchy corn flakes on top! It would look great in this caserole dish! :D Thanks for doing the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteOh my hubby's pumpkin roll and sage and sausage stuffing...YUM!
ReplyDeleteI want to win; pick me!!!!
My favorite dessert is my mom's cream cheese poundcake, which isn't exactly a Thanksgiving exclusive... but it's always delicious on the Thanksgiving table! My favorite casserole is my granny's sweet potato casserole, which has both the pecans and the marshmallows. Come to think of it, the sweet potatoes are probably more of a dessert... but...it DOES have casserole in the name!
ReplyDeleteHands down - DRESSING!!!!!! And it absolutely has to be my mother's dressing. Then I would have to say anything choclate whether it be choclate pie or sheet cake. This is all from yours truly, Rebecca Parker Foster
ReplyDeleteHands down - DRESSING!!!!!! And it absolutely has to be my mother's dressing. Then I would have to say anything choclate whether it be choclate pie or sheet cake. This is all from yours truly, Rebecca Parker Foster
ReplyDeleteMy total favorite thanksgiving dish is Soda Cracker Pie. Weird, I know. My family doesnt really like pumpkin pie, and my grandfather LOVED this soda cracker pie. I have carried on the tradition and make if for my family now. I am making it this year in honor of my late grandfather who passed away on Saturday. Its delish!
ReplyDeleteI am linking your contest on my blog, too! Love the give-away idea.
Hi Whitney ~ omg...I'm still laughing at you and hubby texting each other..what a riot!
ReplyDeleteI make this to die for dessert..don't know what it's called, but it's made with real whipped cream and chocolate wafers. I'll take a picture before we dive into it on Thanksgiving and post it!
Me...I'm looking forward to my stuffing,...just love it!
Hugz,
Michele
We spend our Thanksgiving with different family members each year so, each person offers something different at the the table. I'm Italian, and growing up we would have Thanksgiving at my Nana's house and she would always serve pasta and salad before the turkey came out. It's tradition. By the time the turkey and everything else came out we were stuffed but, ate anyway. :) So, when we are with my family there, I look forward to the pasta. If not, I look forward to the homemade stuffing...I'm a carb addict!
ReplyDeleteI've been making a Wild Rice Corn Pudding for the last 5 or so years and I think it is the best. side. dish. ever. (recipe is from Emeril Legasse - can't go wring there) We only have it at Thanksgiving because it is very decadent.
ReplyDeleteMy grandma used to make a gingerbread pumpkin pie that was astonishingly good. No one makes it anymore, but maybe I'll have to resurrect the recipe.
Thanks for the great giveaway - and letting us run though our holiday food memories!
I also linked you!

Also, I've added a link to your giveaway to my blog!
ReplyDeleteThese are boring answers, but I love pumpkin pie and sweet potatoes. I also love my mother-in-law's dressing. Oddly enough she can't cook anything else well, but her dressing is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dessert is a sugarless apple pie, made by my wonderful mother-in-law. My husband's uncle is a diabetic, so she has made this pie for many years. It's wonderful, and I feel like it's more healthy.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite side dish is candied yams, which I admit, is almost like a dessert. This was made by my grandfather's cousin every year. She died a few years ago, but every time I eat this dish I remember her.
I'm going to have to go with the broccoli rice casserole. My mom makes it, and if I ask her nicely sometimes she'll leave out the onions for me.
ReplyDeleteI linked to you!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dishes are the green bean casserole and the cheddar mashed potatoes that I always make. I really like the entire Thanksgiving dinner though and it is hard to choose!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dessert at Thanksgiving would have to be pumpkin roll. I usually make this myself. And for a side dish ... sweet potato casserole. Martha is delegated to making this dish when she's present; otherwise I make it using her recipe. Yummo!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy second entry. I created a post telling everyone about your awesome giveaway!
ReplyDeleteYou are officially on my site!!! I even put the picture up to entice more entries! Oh, and I also love your blue dish! It's so weird, I registered for A LOT of stuff, but never one of these dishes, and I don't know why!! I hope I win! :D
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pie/dessert is pumpkin pie. I even get it for my birthday. I love when my grandma makes it. I also love the sweet potato casserole my mom makes or the mashed patatoes my aunt makes.
ReplyDeleteI can't choose just one! I love food! Potato casserole people keep talking about sounds soooo good! I'm linking your site in just a few minutes :) Hope you're feeling great!
ReplyDeletei always make broccoli casserole! it is so yum!!!
ReplyDeleteIn my family, I'm in charge of dessert. I've been making all the pies for Thanksgiving and Christmas, since I was about 10. I always make pumpkin and pecan, and then try one other new pie every holiday. My favorite to make is pecan, bc it was my grandfather's favorite, and since he passed away, it means more to me to have that at the table every year.
ReplyDeleteAnd my favorite side dish is my grandma's stuffing. No one can make it like her! Trust me, we've all tried!
My favorite dessert is most definitely carrot cake, and my favorite other food is mashed potatoes!
ReplyDeleteI'm all about the mashed potatoes. Not too fancy, but you know, low calorie with cream cheese and sour cream and baked. Yum, yum, yum! And no gravy for me, just pure, melting butter. *drool*
ReplyDeleteFavorite dessert - pumpkin pie. Especially if I made it. I hate when they're under spiced or mushy. Oh, and it has to have copious amounts of Cool Whip on top - no real whipped cream on that one. I'm ghetto like that!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite side dish (man are my tastes on Thanksgiving revealing my ghetto past!) is plain old Stove Top stuffing, cooked in the bird. I don't want fruit, or nuts, or any kind of meat in my stuffing. I also don't want it cooked on the side. I firmly believe it's called STUFFING for a reason! :)
I love my mom's mashed potatoes (I'm not a fan of the sweet potatoes). They are so creamy and buttery and delicious! Also, my favorite dessert is definitely good 'ol fashinoned pumpkin pie with tons of whipped cream. I'll post about your awesome giveaway on my blog too :)
ReplyDeleteRolls. Gotta have some buttery rolls on the side! ;)
ReplyDeleteI look forward to my husband's grandmothers sweet potato casserole and my mom's pumpkin pie.
ReplyDeleteSex in a pan is the dessert, it's literally that good or pecan pie- & the side dish is probably a cheesy, yummy potato casserole, or tabouli, or green bean casserole - I can't choose. Mom makes it all!
ReplyDeleteWell, although it's not the "typical" Thanksgiving dessert, I must say that I LOVE and look forward every year to...mud cups and worms. Strange I know, but when I was younger, my mom always made them for my sister and I every Thanksgiving. Now I am all grown up and I still love it, especailly licking the oreo crumbs (dirt) off the worms (candy) The holidays bring out the kid in all of us. As far as side dish, I have to say that apple stuffing hands down has to be my favorite. My grandma made it for every Thanksgiving and Christmas. Hands down, it's the best:)
ReplyDeleteWoah! You got a lot of entries! I always love stuffing and mashed potatoes...and my dad always make them!!!
ReplyDeleteHi! Found you through Naturally Caffeinated. Great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMy fave's are hash brown casserole that my husband's grandma makes and green been casserole that my mom makes. Yum!
My great aunt makes this cranberry/grape fruit salad that is so good. You cut up fresh grapes and cranberries. I think there's pecans too. And there's whipped cream, and it's really good. YUMMY.
ReplyDeleteMy nana used to always make pies of all kinds. I love and have always loved pie crust dough so every time we would come to her house I would go to the fridge first thing because I knew she would have some leftover pie crust dough for me in her fridge. That was the best.
Great idea! My favorite dessert is pecan pie...with a huge glob of whipped cream :) I also LOVE dressing!!
ReplyDeleteMy mom is the chef of these two favs!
Check out my blog...I have a giveaway going on right now too!
My favorite dessert is homemade chocolate pie. Sooo rich! And my favorite side is sweet potatoes - blended till very smooth with lots of sugar and butter and cream - and baked with marshmallows on top. It is really more like dessert! The best!!! I make both of these, unless my mom is here - then she makes the sweet potatoes. MMMMMM. Can't wait!

I absolutely adore stuffing. Pretty much the only time I ever eat it is Thanksgiving and Christmas, so the scarceness of it makes it all the more special.
ReplyDeleteDessert? Probably apple pie. It's not terrible Thanksgiving-y, but I'm just not a huge fan of pumpkin. Although I feel guilyy not eating it, because I am all about tradition.
Thanksgiving is by far my favorite holiday! I love stuffing and pumpkin pie. My grandma makes the whole meal with some helping hands! This year I'm bringing the pumpkin pie!
ReplyDeleteI advertised for you on my blog for a second chance!
ReplyDeleteStuffing! Based on Peperidge Farm, with onions and chestnuts added. So simple, buttery, and so good. My grandmother's best friend Dottie makes it.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dessert is pumpkin pie. But my all time favorite thanksgiving dish is oyster stuffing. My family has passed down the recipe and my grandmother makes it every year. It is original and I look forward to it every year. Yum!!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite traditional dessert is a tie! The eagle brand pumpkin pie and the cherry pie,I recieved the recipe from a close friend years ago who grew up on a farm...it is wonderful! I usually make both.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite side dish would be sweet potatoes, whipped to perfection (this year with my new Kitchenaide!) with a bit of orange juice and a ton of brown sugar. Right before serving...our 3 girls (21, 25, 27), STILL love to put the marshmallows all over the top before toasting them under the broiler! Great memories! Memorable traditions!
I am not sure this is a dessert but I love my mom's sweet potato casserole with toasted marshmallows on top. I know it is really a side dish, but it is so sweet I usually eat it as a a side and then go back for another helping for dessert! My favorite side dish is my cousins salad. It is a great blend of flavors, romaine lettuce, mandarin oranges, almonds, feta cheese....it is delish!
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother makes a chocolate meringue pie that is so good. I LOVE mashed potatoes...more than life itself. Well not that much, but a lot!
ReplyDeleteI posted on my blog!
ReplyDeletePS- I know you don't know me, but I know Allison, which is where I found your blog! I think you are sooooo funny. I was lucky to check your blog today, since it is giveaway time!

okay..so I know this is way boring, but my favorite side dish is green bean casserole. But there is quite the story that goes along with it. If there is no green bean casserole I freak out. One year my grandma, who is always in charge os green bean casserole, forgot to buy cream of mushroom soup. She didn't realize it until it was too late. All she had was a can of alfredo sauce. Close enough she thought...OH NO!! I tasted it and immediately asked what was wrong with the green bean casserole. It was horrible!! So...for all you green bean caserole lovers...say no to substitutes!!! Especially alfredo sauce!--Love ya! Ashlee
ReplyDeleteMy favorite casserole has to be broccoli rice casserole...my mom makes it & it's soooo good! Cheese & carbs...what's not to love?! My favorite dessert is pumpkin pie...I could eat the whole thing all by myself. My grandma has always made the best pies for me every year.
ReplyDeleteButterhorn rolls! They aren't a side dish because they are in a catagory all by themselves. I cannot stress to you how wonderful they are. They are made with butter and then you add more butter and then when they come out of the oven you brush them with butter. Oh baby are they good. My favorite dessert is pie and if I had to pick I'd say coconut pie.
ReplyDeletewhat a great giveaway!
ReplyDeletemy favorite dessert is my grandma's pumpkin pie...it's always perfect! i can't wait for thanksgiving!!!!

I love my granny's pecan pie and her homemade dressing. They both melt in your mouth and having you begging for more.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite parts of Thanksgiving dinner are the broccoli and cheese casserole that my mom and grandma make, the homemade rolls that my dad makes, and of course our family's tradition of peanuts being sprinkled on our entire meal....I know it sounds strange but it is FANTASTIC!
ReplyDeleteAs for dessert, pumpkin pie pretty much is the go to dessert!
Favorite dessert is apple pie. It's a go-to. My favorite side dish is cornbread and sausage stuffing. mmmmm.
ReplyDeleteMy answers are the traditional ones. Green bean casserole is my favorite side dish and pumpkin pie is my favorite dessert this time of year.
ReplyDeleteI am a big believer in the fact that all food tastes better if someone else makes it, so it wouldn't matter who made these traditional things as long as it is not me!
By far it's my grandmother's cornbake or my pumpkin cheesecake. However, due to the fact that my diet has severly changed, I'm look most forward to cooking for others, visiting, and spending time together.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE fun cookware!
Great giveaway my friend!
I love Buttered Rum Pound Cake my grandmama used to make. I also looked forward to the dressing my mother made.
ReplyDeleteChocolate Sunday Pie made by my sister Susan
ReplyDeleteps the only chocolate in the pie is the shaved curls of unsweetened chocolate on the top.
My favorite Thanksgiving dessert, is hand's down my mother's sweet potato pie. I try every year to perfect her recipe, but it's always missing that special something that only my mother seems to be able to accomplish.
ReplyDeleteWell, Sweet Potatoes with Marshmellows on top tie with Green Bean Casserole. And, my Mom has to be the cook! :)
ReplyDeleteWell I didn't grow up with Thanksgiving, but since living in the States I've learned to adapt:) One dish that I love is sweet potatoes - pile on the butter and cinnamon and make them sticky and sweet with brown sugar and I'm in heaven!
ReplyDeleteFavorite dessert: Pecan pie!
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's homemade by my mom, sometimes it is store bought.
Favorite casserole: Either broccoli casserole or sweet potato casserole, both by my dad. :)
I always look forward to my mom's stuffing every Thanksgiving. As for dessert, pie....any kind of pie!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite desert is Pecan Pie and my favorite side dish would be my 24-Hour Salad, which I'll post the recipe on my blog this week because I'm making it for my grandson's Fraternity Thanksgiving dinner this Saturday.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dish is always something with sweet potatoes (or is it yams?!). Love it! My mom makes it the best because she always forgets about it and it burns just a tad on the top. Yummy goodness.
ReplyDeleteEEk - hope I'm not too late. My favorite is asparagus casserole - made with asparagus, cheddar cheese, white sauce and cashews. It's FABULOUS!
ReplyDeleteMy mother-in-law's hashbrown casserole. It's fabulous. She shared her recipe, but mine never tastes the same.
ReplyDeleteEEk - hope I'm not too late. My favorite is asparagus casserole - made with asparagus, cheddar cheese, white sauce and cashews. It's FABULOUS!

Rocky top Sweet Potato Casserole. No doubt :) It's got so much butter in it, it has no choice but to be amazing. THen it is covered in a walnut/oat/brown sugar topping. Oh. My. Word.
ReplyDeleteUsually, I make it. I think because I am the one who would be devestated if we didn't have it!
Well pumpkim pie of course!!! And sweet potatoes, yummy!! I can't wait for Thanksgiving hehe! You have an adorable blog, this is my first visit!! :) xo!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dessert is chocolate eclair pie and my fav. side dish is green bean casserole! My mom and Aunts used to make these, but I've inherited the job now! Can't wait for Thanksgiving!

ReplyDeleteAnd...I love those dishes! i'm in NEED for new ones..BAD!
My favorite dessert is one I never make because I am the only one that likes it: Coconut Cream pie, or Cherry pie. My favorite side dish is a sweet potato casserole, so totally different from the usual sweet potatoes with the marshmallow topping. Traditional fare is the cranberry/orange/walnut muffins we make, they are wonderful, a recipe I found 30 years ago in a magazine. Have had them every year since.
ReplyDeleteOh I love my grandmother's pecan pie. Her homemade crust is so delightful. She never had a recipe for it until last year. She measured everything as she made it so I could have it. However, mine does not taste near as good. But I will attempt again this year. I also love her homemade mac and cheese with spaghetti noodles and oodles of cheese and butter.
ReplyDeleteI blogged bout this and totally forgot to put in another comment! DOH!
ReplyDeleteI make fried corn which would love LOVERLY in that blue casserole dish...
